Ranking system: when it fits
The ranking mode is the right choice when a club ranking list should be maintained over a longer period. Players or coaches decide who plays whom, while older results can be weighted down automatically to keep the list current.
What the format does
- The ranking is continuous and not tied to a classic tournament round flow.
- Match date can influence the value of a result so the list stays current.
- Placement comes from the result picture and the configured rule order.
How to run it
- Create the tournament and set the mode to Ranking system.
- Add players or teams.
- Create matches manually and enter the correct date.
- Update results regularly so the ranking remains meaningful.
Typical rules and options
- Time weighting: optional via OFF, LINEAR_365D, or HALF_LIFE_180D.
- Tie-breakers: including SOS_TIEBREAKER, UPSET_BONUS, and ELO_LITE.
- Head-to-head: for close placements or small comparison groups.
- Rule order: configurable separately for player and team rankings.
- Duplicate matches: can warn or block depending on your policy.
- Table points: optional point schemes such as 3-1-0.
When is it a good solution?
- When a club or training group maintains an ongoing ranking over several months.
- When pairings should not depend on a fixed tournament draw.
- When transparency and traceability matter more than a fast knockout bracket.
Practical example
A training group plays each other repeatedly throughout the season. New results are entered immediately, older matches can lose weight if needed, and the ranking still shows a current picture at any time.
